The Latest

In San Francisco last year, a man stabbed a woman in the face and arm after she didn’t respond positively to his sexually harassing her on the street.

In Bradenton, Fla., a man shot a high school senior to death after she and her friends refused to perform oral sex at his request.

In Chicago, a scared 15-year-old was hit by a car and died after she tried escaping from harassers on a bus.

Again, in Chicago, a man grabbed a 19-year-old walking on a public thoroughfare, pulled her onto a gangway and assaulted her.

In Savannah, Georgia, a woman was walking alone at night and three men approached her. She ignored them, but they pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

In Manhattan, a 29-year-old pregnant woman was killed when men catcalling from a van drove onto the sidewalk and hit her and her friend.

Last week, a runner in California — a woman — was stopped and asked, by a strange man in a car, if she wanted a ride. When she declined he ran her over twice.

FUCK YOU if you think that street harassment is a “compliment” or “no big deal” or that it’s “irrational” of us to be afraid because “what’s actually gonna happen.” Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you some more.

Rock Newman on The Phil Donahue Show sharing his experiences as a black man who has passed as white.

I remember watching this show and falling in love with him and his strength. He is still in the movement fighting for People to Recognize that Racism is all about who controls the power dynamic.

A feminism comic I did for my uni’s newspaper. I wish I had a bit more time to work on it, but I’m pleased with how it came out considering the tight deadline!

How Do You Describe Your Gender Identity?

"I am a transexual woman.  I am woman.  I’m a woman in my mind and in my soul.  No one is the guarantor of womanhood.  Those people who identify themselves as women are women to me- and I love my womanhood."

Benedict Cumberbatch touched by Lupita’s acceptance speech

Oh god Benedict, the last one, look at him. Such a touching moment.

i think this is absolutely great. i love ben because he shows the world what it is to be an exemplary human being. he cries when he’s touched, and that makes him even tougher than any other man i know. he has that humor in him that allows him to freaking photobomb U2 and Ellen. I just really love Ben, and I eagerly await the day when the whole world will be screaming his name.

Okay i resisted reblogging this but i can’t-
Everyone has a watery eye, but but Benedict is just crying. Do you wanna know why? Because that girl up there is his friend, someone he’s worked with and befriended. He clearly appreciates her acting, and he’s so touched by her winning what she wanted since she was a child, and he just doesn’t even try to hide his tears.

This is why I love Benedict so much.

(and amen to “…I eagerly await the day when the whole world will be screaming his name”)

I will always reblog this. 😘

Remember when Disney was all like ‘fuck how races work and homogeneous casts and couples’?

Black and white couple produce fillipino-american child. White dude is the valet. White step mother, one white step sister, one black step sister. Just a jumble, and it ought to happen again.

Some facts from imdb:

First multi-racial cast performing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

Whitney Houston was producing Rodger and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” and was to star in it until she decided that Brandy Norwood would make a better Cinderella. Brandy would not do it unless her idol Whitney took the Fairy Godmother role.

Brandy Norwood became the first African-American to play Cinderella. This version broke viewer-ship records when it debuted, and it holds the record for the bestselling video for a made for TV movie.

So fuck any noise where people say audience don’t want to see a mixed race couple, or more people of color. This was a success from television. I still remember Brandy singing Impossible.

That ought to happen again. Mixed race live action cast where the relationships don’t made genetic or racial sense.

If you are a white woman and you want to call yourself a feminist, you must acknowledge that your whiteness affords you a privilege that shields you from a lot. You must also acknowledge that you are afforded privileges that some men in this country do not have. Racism and sexism are tightly intertwined. You cannot fight one while ignoring the other.
